We had some hot cross buns with class 1 today. We thought about what they smelt and tasted like, then had a think about why they have a cross on top. We had some great ideas, like it's because they are made in England, and because they are called hot 'cross' buns. We wondered if the name came before the bun. Some others thought it was to do with Easter and Jesus.
We had a story bag story with a road on a purple cloth. At the end was a cross. There was a king on the road and lots of other people around. Some were crying because they loved him, some were crying because they had let him down and some hated him. We wondered why. We had lots of great ideas! We found out that the king died at the cross, then was taken to a beautiful garden. We wondered why. We thought of lots of ideas.
We made our own crosses out of twigs that we collected and by decorating some card ones. The twigs made us think very carefully about how to bind them together. We had to work together to make them secure. Mrs Sergeant told us the story about what happened to the king next. Ask the children from class 1 or 2 about it and they will tell you.

Class 1 and 2 visit the church
We went to the church today to learn about belonging to the church. We took part in a Baptism so we could understand how people show that they belong to the Christian family.
We had parents and godparents.
The first thing we did was light a candle and pray.
We learned that there are three symbols for Baptism, the cross, oil and holy water. Sarah put a cross of oil on the baby's head.
Our baby was named Lou Lou in the ceremony. She was very well behaved!
We learned a lot about the church too and became detectives, finding out lots of clues about belonging to the church.
